Love that show, just got into it last year but damn was it good. I *think* they're doing a 2nd additional season now, right?

Zuccarello sums up the hidden genius of Cappy

“Playing against them is hard because it almost seems like they have no structure the way they attack, so we run around and give them too many chances."

Whatever Capuano has done this season has worked. Yes, the talent level is better than in recent years, but even the most cynical Isles fan has to give credit to the head coach a bit.

So far they have to be the best story going in the NHL. Nashville is a great story too but the Islanders literally went from non playoff team to potential cup favorite coming out of the east.

I still wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire, But he is the second winningest coach in Isles History!!

A lot of his bonehead decisions seem to have subsided. Partially due to a handful of guys playing far better than they did at the start of the year, mainly the 4th line and Brian Strait.

I kinda laughed off Cherry's comments about the Isles fourth line being the best in hockey a week or two ago, but the more I watch and think about it I think it's a pretty fair argument to make.

I haven't seen a more effective fourth line this season than in Martin-Czsikas(sp?)-Clutterbuck. They have been excellent in the last two meetings against the Rangers and a catalyst in both Isles wins.

It always helps a coach to have a talented team and the Islanders are a talented team. But Capuano and the rest of the coaching staff deserve credit for this turnaround. Although, aside from the players, nobody deserves a bigger pat on the back than Garth Snow.

definitely top 3 in the league. That's kind of what helps Cap's stupidity seem like it's subsiding, since his weakness is matchups. You still see him give too much time to strait and hickey against guys they have no business being on the ice against. But when the 4th line produces like they have, you can roll all 4 without looking like an idiot

You'd have to waive a couple players to fit him in under the cap. Going by NHLNumbers (I miss CapGeek), you guys have a shade under $1.5M in cap space. Greening's AAV is $2.65M. I don't know if that gets pro-rated out over the remainder of the season like trades do, but that effectively would mean you guys could not add a single piece at the trade deadline without moving more players off your roster.

edit: I'm not writing him off as a player, obviously because he's a rookie, but Kevin Hayes having a cap hit of $3.75M per year is absolutely insane. For the kind of production you are getting (and should fairly expect from a rookie forward), having him take up that much room on the cap is terrible. That kind of money could get you a decent 3rd line center.

it does get pro rated, the hit would be close to 1m. I think were going to move hagelin and maybe miller, sell high on him. Although i dont want to

I'd move Hagelin before Miller. Takes up more room on the cap and I don't really think he's much to write home about. He's a solid player, but I think the only irreplaceable thing that he brings to the table is his speed.

Yeah no im all for that ive said it a lot. Other fans have fallen in love with him and dont agree but hes plateaued as a player. Hes fast for no reason. I meant id rather hold onto miller because hes finally developing into what we had hoped for. And Hags speed is great but he doesnt utilize it well unless he gets a great stretch pass. I think kreider is faster, honestly

No way they should move Miller. Rangers aren't in the position to throw away good and inexpensive young players as they are pressed pretty tight against the cap as is.

I don't know which way NYR fans and the team itself are leaning as far as Zuccarello, but if he's not going to be re-signed I would strongly consider moving him for a center, if you're not going to bring him back next year. If you are, then no way.

Again I'd rather keep him than hagelin. His hockey iq is through the roof and yeah he's not scoring newrly as much as last season, but his presence on Nash's line is a BIG reason nash is having a career year. He makes the guys around him better, brassard is a ppg player (who wouldve thought?). Hagelin on the other hand, is only effective on a line with better players around him. I think hes young enough to fetch a nice return
